To find the GSM (grams per square meter) of a fabric, you can follow these steps: Measure the Fabric's Weight: Cut a sample piece of fabric with a known area, typically 10 cm x 10 cm (which is 100 cm²). Weigh this sample accurately using a digital scale . Record the weight in grams. Calculate the Area of the Sample: For a 10 cm x 10 cm sample, the area is 100 cm² Calculate GSM: Use the formula Since your sample is in cm², convert the area to m² Therefore Example: If the sample weighs 20 grams Alternative Method: Use a GSM cutter or a fabric GSM measurement device for quick testing. Some fabrics have manufacturer specifications indicating GSM , which can be used directly.
